Very interesting article, thank you! In your research for this, did you ever encounter a Patristic view on the role of/ devotion to St. Joseph in the life of the Church? Or was there variation among the Fathers?
If by "patristics" you mean the fathers prior to the 8th or 9th century, then I wouldn't say there seems to be much commentary on the place of St. Joseph at all. Mostly just passing references. Serious attention to St. Joseph doesn't really start until the medieval era.
